Group Therapy Program

About the Program

The ASAP Group Therapy program provides a safe and therapeutic environment for adolescents and their families to learn skills needed in recovery, and to talk about ongoing issues related to drug and alcohol use. Our group therapy program is based on substance abuse treatments that have been tested and found to be beneficial for adolescents.

We offer three distinct group tracks in order to meet the needs of a diverse group of adolescents. We carefully screen each person and find the track that would be most effective. Each track includes a group for adolescents and a companion group for parents.

The first track is for teens who have primarily been using alcohol and marijuana, and are in an early phase of treatment. The second track is for teens who are in early phase of treatment for opioid dependence. These two groups meet weekly for 13 weeks and follow a psycho-educational curriculum designed to teach practical and effective skills for dealing with the challenges of becoming abstinent from substance use. Adolescents and their parents/caregivers can join a group at the first or seventh session. We offer three cycles of these groups each year.

The third track, called the Continuing Care Group, is for teens who have maintained a period of sobriety. This group meets twice a month and is geared toward supporting adolescents to return to the community and help caregivers to support individuation/separation. Adolescents and parents can join the group at four points during the year. We run two cycles of the Continuing Care Group per year.

All groups are facilitated by licensed clinical social workers and masters level licensed drug and alcohol counselors.

Insurance Information

All teens and parents/caregivers who participate in the group program are billed through their respective insurances. If insurance does not cover the cost of group therapy, then participants will be billed directly.
